Our fragrance oils are Lilial free
Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial) What is it?
Lilial (a trade name for lily aldehyde, also known as lysmeral) is a chemical compound commonly used as a perfume in cosmetic preparations and laundry powders, often under the name butylphenyl methylpropional. It is a synthetic aromatic aldehyde. It was banned for use in cosmetics by the EU in March 2022 after being found to be harmful to fertility.
Fragrance oils are made up of, sometimes hundreds of chemical compounds and Lilial was commonly used in the past as one of these ingredients.
What does it mean?
The regulations and rules surrounding products that use hazardous chemicals are always being assessed, to ensure that the products we put out to market are safe for the end user. This is also true of protecting those, like us, that deal with the neat/raw chemicals.
It is important to understand the changes that come into place to ensure you keep yourself and your customers safe.
If you are currently using a fragrance oil, from anywhere, it is important that you read and understand the allergen declaration. This is where you would find the chemicals used in the fragrance oil that can cause allergic reactions, and worse. These are known as chemicals that cause triggers. These triggers vary from causing an allergic reaction, causing serious eye irritation through to suspected of causing damage to fertility.
Are your fragrance oils safe?
All of the fragrance oils we use at Craft HQ are completely free of the chemical Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial). On the listing for each fragrance oil we have added in the description the wording ’Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial) free’ and the allergen declarations are available for you to download and save for your records. We recommend doing this with all of the regulatory information available.
If we were to upgrade and/or reformulate a fragrance oil we will ensure to add the documentation to the website as soon as the new oil is ready to purchase and send out emails to inform you of all of the changes. You would always be able to get access to current and old documentation when you need it.
What should I do?
If you use any of our fragrance oils currently listed on our website you can continue producing your products for your customers with the knowledge that all of our stock is Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial) free.
Conclusion
You can continue to use all of your unique Craft HQ fragrance oils without worrying about Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial). We will inform you of any updates on chemical bans and reclassifications in the future.
